Install Firefox ESR 52 - 32bit in Ubuntu

1.Removing Existing Version

       Remove any existing version of Firefox from your system if installed using

$ sudo apt-get remove firefox

                       

2.Download Firefox ESR

       Download Firefox Extended Support Release 32bit in your language.

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/

                  

3.Move & Extract

       Moving downloaded file from dowload directory to /usr/local and extracting.

# sudo su

# cd Downloads

# sudo mv firefox-52.2.1esr.tar.bz2 /usr/local

# cd /usr/local/ 

# tar xvjf firefox-52.2.1esr.tar.bz2

4.Configuring Firefox ESR

        Firefox source is completely pre compiled and we don’t have to do anything to make it running on system. We just need to create a soft-link of Firefox binary file to systems bin directory to make it accessible from anywhere in system.

$ sudo ln -s /usr/local/firefox/firefox /usr/bin/firefox

Now start Firefox using following command from Linux terminal. You may also use GUI menu to start Firefox on your system

 # firefox &

You can lock a Firefox version using

 # sudo apt-mark hold firefox
